The Director of Campus Safety and Security is responsible for ensuring a safe and secure environment for all students, faculty, staff, and visitors at Middlesex School. This leadership position involves developing, implementing, and managing comprehensive safety and security strategies across campus. The Director will work collaboratively with various campus stakeholders, including law enforcement agencies, emergency services, and the campus community to promote safety and respond effectively to incidents and emergencies.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership
- Develop and implement a comprehensive campus safety and security plan in alignment with the school's mission and goals.
- Evaluate and assess current safety procedures and protocols, making recommendations for improvements.
Risk Management
- Conduct regular risk assessments to identify potential safety hazards and implement appropriate measures to mitigate risks.
- Advise campus leadership on safety and security trends, regulations, and best practices.
Policy Development
- Develop, review, and enforce campus safety policies, procedures, and emergency response plans.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations related to campus safety and security.
Community Engagement
- Foster strong relationships with local law enforcement, emergency services, and other community partners to enhance safety initiatives.
- Promote safety awareness within the campus community through educational programs, workshops, and outreach initiatives.
Incident Response
- Lead the campus response to emergencies, including natural disasters, criminal incidents, and other emergencies.
- Coordinate the campus Emergency Response Team and oversee emergency drills and training programs.
Supervision and Management
- Oversee the hiring, training, and performance evaluation of safety and security personnel.
- Manage the campus security budget, including resource allocation and equipment procurement.
Reporting and Analysis
- Develop and maintain accurate records related to safety incidents, investigations, and response activities.
- Prepare and present reports to campus leadership and the Board of Trustees on safety and security matters.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Public Safety, Emergency Management, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in campus safety, law enforcement, or emergency management, with at least 3 years in a supervisory role.
- Knowledge of federal and state regulations pertaining to campus safety and security.
- Respect for diversity of identities and experiences, an orientation toward equity and inclusion, and cultural competency in all aspects of School life.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse groups.
- Proven ability to manage complex situations and develop innovative solutions.
- Certification in Emergency Management or related fields (e.g., CPP, PSP, or similar) preferred.
Working Conditions:
- This position requires a flexible schedule, including availability for on-call incidents and emergencies.
- Ability to work in various environments, including outdoors and in potentially challenging situations.
Additional eligibility requirements:
- Able to successfully clear CHRI, CORI, and SORI checks.
